Mr. Abraham Cruz, 33, of Raeford passed away Monday, February 22, 2016 in his home.
Abraham was born in Puerto Rico on October 27, 1982 to Angel M. Cruz and Ismaly Hernandez Cruz. He Joined the US. Army after high school serving tours of duty to Afghanistan and Iraq during his 15 year career. SFC Cruz retired in November of 2015. He is preceded in death by his father, Angel M. Cruz.
SFC Cruz awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, 2nd award, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, (5), National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 3 Campaign Stars, Non Commissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon (3rd Award), Army Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Senior Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge and Drill Sergeant Identification Badge.
Surviving SFC Cruz are his children, Anthony Thade Cruz, Brody Shia Cruz, Lalayna Michelle Cruz and Jace Michael Charnin, all of North Carolina; his mother, Ismaly Quiles and his step-father, Ernesto Quiles of Florida; a brother, Angel Leonel Cruz of Florida and many extended family members.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 29, 2016 at LaFayette Funeral Home, 6651 Raeford Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28304. The family will receive friends following the service from 12:00 noon -4:00 PM.
Graveside services with Full Military Honors will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
