Mr. William L. “Bill” Chavis, 77, of Fayetteville, NC, peacefully went to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, May 31, 2014 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Brother Bill was the owner and operator of Cape Fear Upholstery since 1972. Brother Bill was a faithful member of Cape Fear Baptist Church and an ordained Deacon since 1965. He was a Sunday-School teacher, Royal Ambassador Leader; a member of Cape Fear Quartet, which later became known as Cape Fear Gospelear’s and a member of the Cape Fear Baptist Brotherhood.

He was born on February 12, 1937, in Marlboro County, South Carolina. He and his loving wife, Sister Marie Maynor Chavis celebrated the same birthday. He and Sister Marie were married March 5th, 1955 and celebrated 59 wonderful years of marriage. He left a loving legacy and example to their daughters, grand-children, great grand-children and loved ones.

Brother Bill was a wonderful husband, provider, father, grand-father, great grand-father, brother-in-law and uncle. He was an avid lover of golf. He truly loved his family and church family.

He is preceded in death by his father, William Lawrence Chavis, his mother, Susan L. Barnes Chavis, a brother, Velton Dick Chavis and a sister, Novella Chavis Robinson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marie Maynor Chavis of the home; three daughters, Teresa Ann Chavis Jones and her husband Randy of Fayetteville, Sandra Marie Chavis and her husband Jerry of Stedman, and Rachel Ann Chavis of Atkinson; granddaughter, Lillian Marie Whitted; grandsons, Anthony Michael Jones, William Matthew Jones, and Benjamin Emanuel; 6 great granddaughters and 2 great grandsons; several nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Cape Fear Baptist Family Life Center, 100 Indian Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28312.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Cape Fear Baptist Church with Pastor Bruce Swett officiating, assisted by Reverend’s Leonard Gibbs, Jerry Groves, Bobby Dean Locklear, Rick MacAfee, and Mike Cummings.

Burial will follow in the Cape Fear Baptist Church Cemetery.
