SFC Ayra Anays Tompkins Salvatierra, 67, of Raeford, North Carolina, passed away on June 6, 2024 at Womack Army Medical Center.
Ayra was born on June 3, 1957 in Panama to the late Joseph James and Leticia Salvatierra. She graduated high school with honors in Panama, and later went to school to complete both a bachelors in science and an associate in culinary arts. She had always dreamt of becoming a medic, and she later joined the U.S Army and become a W68 Combat Medic. She was living her dream of being a medic and helping others. While in the military, she married her wonderful husband, Fredrick Tompkins, who she was with for 30 wonderful years before his passing.
Ayra, after retiring from the army, arrived in NC. She dedicated herself to traveling with her family, friends, and husband. Some of her favorite activities to participate in were singing karaoke, cooking, tending to her backyard, and planting fruits. She also enjoyed visiting the great state of New Jersey, Belgium, Atlantic City, South Korea, and her home in Panama.
To cherish her memory, Ayra leaves behind her daughter, Jackelin Ayra Tompkins Salvatierra and her two fur babies, Jolie Miracle Tompkins, and Sammy Alexander Tompkins; grandchildren Joseline Ayra Tompkins Salvatierra and Ayline Anays Tompkins Salvatierra; along with many extended family members and friends.
Ayra wishes for her family to remember her as a person who kept her word despite anything. One of her sayings was “your word is what is worth the most” and “If you say something, chucha do it.”

Poems
I AM FREE
Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free,
I’m following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call,
I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day, to laugh,
To love, to work or play.
Tasks undone must stay that way
I’ve found that peace at the close of the day.
If parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss,
Ah, yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I savoured much
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief,
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and share with me,
God wants me now, He set me free.

Her Journey’s Just Begun
Don’t think of her as gone away,
her journey’s just begun,
Life holds so many facets,
this earth is only one,
Just think of her as resting,
from the sorrows and the tears,
In a place of warmth and comfort,
where there are no days or years,
Think how she must be wishing,
that we could know today,
How nothing but our sadness,
can really pass away,
And think of her as living,
in the hearts of those she touched,
For nothing loved is ever lost,
and she was loved so much.
