Rosa Sariano Vega, 88, passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Rosa Soriano Vega was born in San Antonio, TX on September 4, 1927 and was the youngest of seven children. Her parents died when she was six years old. She was raised by her brothers and they lived in San Antonio TX.  She later fell in love with a neighborhood boy named Santiago (Jim) Vega.  They were married on August 3, 1947 at St. Alphonsus Church.  Rosa felt so beautiful in the white wedding gown that her mother-in-law made for her and riding in the limousine was a wonderful experience.  It was the best day of her life.

The family she married into loved her very much and treated her like a daughter.  Soon after their marriage, Jim joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Bragg.  He was a paratrooper that did several tours overseas that included Vietnam and later became a member of the Special Forces.
Rosa Stayed in San Antonio to be close to her in-laws who assisted in raising four young children, Maria de Jesus, Maria Estella, Jose Juan and Santiago, Jr.

Her in-laws were devout Catholics that provided a lot of love, attention and assisted in raising their first four grandchildren.  Rosa loved and missed her husband so much she moved to Fayetteville, North Carolina in 1956 with four young children.  She had her fifth child in Hope Mills, North Carolina and named him David Harold.

She was often homesick but laid roots in Fayetteville.  Rosa was a hard working woman that helped provide for her children.  She worked two jobs to make ends meet and always kept the home front going.  She raised her children to become productive, hardworking individuals. In 1965 she was pregnant with her last child, Gregory Lee and temporarily moved to San Antonio to be near her in-laws.

In her younger years she never met a stranger and was very outgoing.  She loved her family, her church family and friends so much that she couldn’t bear to leave Fayetteville.  She was a strong, independent, caring woman who overcame many obstacles during her lifetime.  Each time coming through stronger as she wanted to set an example for her children that with God you can do all things and nothing is impossible.  Rosa was a prayer warrior who would pray for anyone who asked.  She will be missed by her children, her friends and church family.

She is survived by her sons; Jose Juan Vega (Joe) of San Antonio, TX, Santiago Vega Jr. (Jimmy) of San Antonio, TX, David Harold Vega of Raeford, NC, Gregory Lee Vega of Fayetteville, NC, two daughters; Mary J. Barker of Georgetown, TX and Maria Estella Jennings of San Antonio, TX; 10 Grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
