Mr. Ronnie Dudley Cox, 69, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2021 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, surrounded by family and friends. Ronnie was born in Roosevelt County, New Mexico, to the late T.J. Cox and Minnie Smith Thompson. He was also preceded in death by his four brothers, Durwood Thompson, Olin Thompson, Obey “Dobey” Thompson, and Lee Thompson; sister, Minnie Scroggins.
Ronnie proudly enlisted in the United States Army on June 3, 1970 in Portales, New Mexico. During his enlistment, he was assigned to Company A 34th Signal Battalion and also to the USA Southeastern Signal School in Ft. Gorgon, GA. He also received a National Defense Service Medal and an Expert Medal in Marksmanship. He retired as an Electrician from Goodyear and was also an Aircraft Mechanic. Ronnie will always be remembered as a loving and faithful husband for over twenty-two years. He was also a wonderful father; jack of all trades and he will surely be missed.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Denise Cox of the home; one son, Christopher Cox (Virginia) of Fayetteville; two daughters, Wendy Brookshire (Marshall) of Fayetteville and Angel Carter, of the home; three brothers, Tommy Thompson of Amarilla, Texas, Paul Thompson of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Ivan Thompson of Mexico; two sisters, Dorothy Savage and Leoda Davis of Clovis, New Mexico; two grandchildren, Carly Brookshire of Boone, North Carolina, Bradley Brookshire of Fayetteville, North Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
To celebrate the life of Ronnie Dudley Cox, a Funeral Service will be held 1:30 PM Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Cape Fear Baptist Family Life Center, 100 Indian Drive, Fayetteville, North Carolina 28312, with Pastor Troy Wiley officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Service.
Burial with Military Honors will be 3:00 PM in Sandhills State Veteran Cemetery, 8220 Bragg Blvd, Ft. Bragg, North Carolina 28310.
