Mr. Robert Perry Hyde, 91, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016 in UNC Hospital at Chapel Hill.

Robert was born in Edgecombe County, son to the late George Lewis Hyde and Mary Elizabeth Lamb Hyde. He joined the US Army in 1943 receiving his pilot’s license. He served as a Mechanic and Gunner on a B-25 Bomber in the 490th Squadron Burma Bridge Buster during WWII. He was also a Gunnery Instructor. After the war he worked as an Electrical Engineer and Inspector with the Army Corps of Engineers before retiring. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Margery Evelyn Pliner Hyde, 5 sisters and 2 brothers. Mr. Hyde was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his children, Robert Joseph Hyde and wife Jeanette of Goldsboro, George David Hyde and wife Dian of Fayetteville, Allen Lee Hyde and wife Eugenia of St. Pauls, Mary Evelyn Johnson of Fayetteville and Betty Hyde Gillis and husband Joseph of Fayetteville; a sister, Artie Hyde Hamm of Rocky Mount, NC, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Visitation will be held 1:00-1:30 PM Friday, April 15, 2016 at Galatia Presbyterian Church Parlor, 8800 Galatia Church Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28304.

Funeral services will begin at 2:00 P.M. following the visitation with Pastor Brett Johnson and Pastor Fred Crank officiating.

Burial will follow in the Galatia Church Cemetery.
