Retired SFC Osbell Lafayette, 53, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013 in Cape Fear Valley Hospital.

SFC Lafayette was born on September 13, 1960 in Bronx, NY and was the son of Oscar and Annabelle Lafayette. He attended Alfred E. Smith High School in New York and joined the Army after Graduating. SFC Lafayette married Donna Y. Meeks on July 15, 1983 in Belton Texas. He served 24 years in in the US Army in which he served tours in Germany, Korea, Kuwait, Bosnia, Iraq, Dessert Storm and Bagdad. He is preceded in death by his father, Oscar Lafayette, his brother, Jerome Lafayette, his sister, Judy Lafayette and his mother-in-law, Mabel Meeks.

He leaves memories with his wife, Donna Y. Meeks Lafayette of the home; two children, Lynetta Lawson and her husband Christopher of Ft. Riley, KS and Demond Burns and his wife Stephanie of Ft. Pope, LA; eight grandchildren, Marlin, Donnetta, Shanelle, Jaylen, Ahyannah, Zatrel, Ariel and LaReena; his mother, Annabelle Lafayette of Charleston, SC; brother, Anthony Lafayette of Charleston, SC; half-brother and sisters, Oscar Lafayette of Charleston, SC, Leona Lafayette of Atlanta, GA and Barbara Lafayette of Charleston, SC; brother-in-laws, Rev. Gerald Meeks, Howard Neal, John Meeks and Stanley Meeks; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends Tara Lee, Nat Smith, Sherry Smith and Candy.

SFC Lafayette enjoyed and loved his family, the Military, traveling and playing the bass guitar. He was a minister of the Gospel and enjoyed teaching Gods word to anyone he came in contact with. He enjoyed Spade, his dog and Spade misses him. He touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday, October 10, 2013 at LaFayette Funeral Home, 6651 Raeford Rd, Fayetteville, NC 28304.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Friday, October 11, 2013 at Friendship Grove Freewill Baptist Church 6056 Fayetteville Rd. Raeford NC 28376 with Reverend Gerald Meeks and Pastor Bernard Hamilton officiating.

Burial will follow the service at 2:00 pm at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 400 Murchison Road Spring Lake, NC 28390.
