Retired Master SGT James L. Lett, 76, Passed Away Saturday, September 6, 2014 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

James was born in Harnett County on September 26, 1937 to the late Gray L. Lett and Cornelia Wicker Lett. He attended Middle School and High School in Lillington and joined the US Army. He Retired from The US Army after serving over 20 years and one day. He then worked as a Deputy Sheriff for Cumberland County and as a Security Guard for over 14 years on Ft. Bragg and a Security Guard at FTCC. During this time he received 2 college degrees, taught Jr. ROTC in Winston Salem and was a Concealed Weapons Instructor. During his career in the military, he served in Vietnam receiving many Award’s and Decorations. He was a member of the DAV, American Legion, VFW, RMA chapter 1-18, SFA and NRA. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by 3 sisters, Eunice Rieves, Marie Proctor and Margie L. Anderson. He was a soldier’s soldier and loved the US Army. He will be greatly missed.

James is survived by his wife Sara of Fayetteville; a son, Scott L. Lett of Fayetteville; step son, David Nolan of PA; a brother, Charles Lett and his wife Brenda of Fuqua Varina; sisters, Nellie Lett Cox and husband Roy of Sanford and Otis Lett Wallace of Lemon Springs; 2 grandchildren, Wendy Nolan Savoca and husband Dave, Reid Nolan, all on Myrtle Beach, SC.

Visitation will be 2:00-3:00 P.M. Monday, September 15, 2014 at the JFK Memorial Chapel, Building D-3116, Ardennes and Zabitosky Street, Ft. Bragg, NC 28301.

A Memorial service with Full Military Honors will begin at 3:00 P.M. Monday following the visitation at the Chapel with Chaplain Roy Hill officiating.
