MSG Nelson Santiago Lendeborg, 48, passed away Monday, September 7, 2020 in his home surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Omayra Lendeborg; daughters, Yarelis M. Lendeborg and Noelis D. Lendeborg; a son, Antonio J. Lendeborg; 2 grandchildren, Zayden N. Sweeney Lendeborg, Noah G. Sweeney Lendeborg; his mother and father, Maritza A. Contreras and Alberto Cortinas; brothers, Edgar Lendeborg, Hector Lendeborg and Johnny Lendeborg; a sister, Maritza Lendeborg, and many extended family members.

Nelson was born in the Dominican Republic on August 18, 1972. He joined the US Army in 1992 and enjoyed a distinguished career serving in a multitude of positions both in the US and abroad.

Nelson served with the utmost distinction and received the following awards in the military: Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Commendation Medal (4 Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal (1 Silver Leaf Cluster), Army Good Conduct Medal (9 Knots), National Defense Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 Combat Stars), Iraq Campaign Medal (4 Combat Stars), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and the NATO Medal. He also earned the Senior and Master Air Crew Member Badges, Army Aviator Badge, and Parachutist Badge.

Nelson loved riding his Harley Davidson and spending time with family and friends.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, September 17, 2020 at Main Post Chapel, 1-1510 Macomb St., Fort Bragg, NC 28307
