Msg Jessie Whiteford Brown (Retired)

Terrell, TX, formerly of Fayetteville

U.S. Army MSG Jessie Whiteford Brown, (Retired), 89, passed away Monday, January 17, 2022 in Broadmoor Medical Lodge in Rockwall, Texas.

Jessie was born in Hamer, SC on May 26, 1932, son to the late William and Nannie Carter Brown.

Jessie enlisted in the US Army at the age of 19 after working in the Hamer Cotton Mill. He served many tours to include Vietnam. His love while serving was Tanks and he could always tell you stories. He retired in 1974 after 23 years of service and still to this day loved the US Army. After retirement he worked in Civil Service and retired after 21 years.

MSG Brown served with the utmost distinction and received the following awards in the military: National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Occupation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, Bronze Star Medal, Bronze Star Medal (1OLC), Army Commendation Medal, Drill Instructor Badge, Expert Badge w/Pistol Bar, Good Conduct Medal, 5th Award.


Along with his parents, Jessie is preceded in death by his wife, Christa Gerda Brown, his son, Sven Brown, a brother, Earl Brown and 2 sisters, Margaret Ray, Linda Horne.

He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Barrington and husband Earl, Geneva Hibdon and husband Gene, all of Terrell, TX; 2 brothers, Billy Brown (Marlene) and James Brown, all of Hammer, SC; 1 sister, Barbara Hopkins of Dillon, SC;4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Not only did Jessie love the US Army, he also loved the Lord and his family. He was a member of Antioch Church of God and served faithfully and was also a lifetime member of the DAV. He loved his family dearly and moved to Texas to be with his daughters several years ago. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but we know he is rejoicing around the throne of God with Christa and Sven.

Visitation will be 5:30 – 7:00 PM Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Antioch Church of God, 542 Shaw Road, Fayetteville, NC 28303.


Funeral Services will be 7:00 PM following the visitation with Pastor Jerry Johnson officiating.

Graveside Services with Full Military Honors will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, January 26, 2022 in Sandhills State Veteran's Cemetery, 8220 Bragg Blvd, Fort Bragg, NC 28310.
