Master Sergeant Jeremy Wheeler, of Spring Lake, formerly of Kennesaw, Georgia, succumbed to cancer on September 24, 2022 following several years of battling the disease.
Jeremy was born in Marietta, Georgia on July 11, 1980 and was the definition of a Green Beret. A tough, team player that lived the ‘quiet professional’ ideals. He was a combat-tested leader, an exemplary Non-Commissioned Officer, and improved the lives of everyone he interacted with.
Wheeler joined the Army in 2003 and arrived to Fort Bragg in 2006. He served as a Special Forces Weapons Sergeant and was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne).
Wheeler is a combat veteran, having deployed in support of overseas contingency operations in 2005, 2009, 2012, and 2015. His awards decoration include the Bronze Star Medal (second award), the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (second award), The Army Good Conduct Medal (sixth award), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (three campaign stars), Iraq Campaign Medal (one campaign star), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (third award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (second award), NATO Medal (second award), Combat Infantry Badge, Parachutist Badge, and the Special Forces Tab.
MSG Wheeler is survived by his wife Janet Wheeler of Spring Lake, NC; his daughter, Jennifer Wheeler of Spring Lake, NC and many extended family members.
He is preceded in death by his sons Joe Wheeler and James Wheeler.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at The Airborne Artillery Memorial Chapel, Bldg, #3 D-3733 Ardennes St. Fort Bragg, NC 28310 with Chaplain (CPT) Lucas McConnell officiating.
