SGM (Ret.) Johnny Vasquez passed on Wednesday, Dec. 16th, 2020 at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Johnny was born on August 28, 1943 to the late Rudolph Vasquez and Amelia Espitia from East Chicago, Indiana. He was a 30 year Veteran of the United States Army with his final assignment at Ft. Bragg where he retired October 1990. He served 5 overseas tours including 3 tours in Vietnam.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Renate M. Vasquez. He was survived by his brother Mario Martinez and sister Rita Sanchez, daughters Susanne (Hartman) and her husband Edward of Racine, WI, Brenda (Otero) and her husband Leonardo of Pace, FL, Junet and her fiancé Marc of Fayetteville, N.C., Marcelina (Venosh) of Pensacola, FL, a son, Roland and wife Lucy of Salina, KS, and daughter, Manuela (Thornton) and her husband Daniel of Milton, FL, and honorary daughter Linda Diaz of Greenville, N.C., 27 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

He was an avid sports enthusiast especially of the Chicago teams. He was active in the community by supporting charitable organizations. He honorably served his country, lived life to its fullest and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Visitation will be at Lafayette Funeral Home on Monday, Dec. 28, 2020 from 7-9pm. However, due to COVID restrictions the in-person capacity has been reached by immediate family. A graveside service will be held in Lafayette Memorial Park West on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2020 at 11a.m. The public is welcome to attend the gravesite service, from a distance.

Arrangements for the family are entrusted to LaFayette Funeral Home, 6651 Raeford Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28304. On-line condolences may be made at www.lafayettefh.com.
