Retired SFC John Fredrick Pettit III, 36, passed away Monday, November 23, 2015 in his home.
SFC Pettit was born in Knox County, IL on May 28, 1979, son to John II and Gerri Ann Barton Pettit. He graduated from High School in 1997 and joined the US Army serving 3 tours of duty to Afghanistan. He retired in 2014. His sister, Kimi Pettit preceded him in death.
SFC Pettit’s awards and decorations include, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2OLC), Army Achievement Medal (5th), Army Good Conduct Medal (4th), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, Parachutist Badge and Air Assault Badge.
SFC Pettit is survived by his wife, Christy and son Liam of the home; his parents, John II and Gerri (Barton) Pettit of Elmwood, IL; 2 sisters, Tami Romo of Germany and Meika Claerhout of Elmwood, IL.
A Funeral Ceremony will be held 3:00 PM Thursday, December 3, 2015 at the JFK Memorial Chapel, Zabitosky Rd & Ardennes Rd, Fort Bragg, NC 28307 with Chaplain (MAJ) Brad Borders officiating.
