SFC John Ambrose Donnan (Retired), 85, of Fayetteville, passed away July 9, 2021 at his home. SFC Donnan was surrounded by his loved ones for the duration of his final mission and most difficult battle.
SFC Donnan was born on April 29, 1936 in Lancaster, PA to the late John Ambrose Donnan Sr. and Lola Barbara Winters. After retiring from the military Mr. Donnan worked and retired from Good Year Tire & Rubber Company in Fayetteville, NC. There his knowledge and skills were highly valued as an electrical engineer.
SFC Donnan’s awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal (1st OLC), Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Safe Driver Badge, the Army Commendation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal (5 awards), and the Germany Labor Service Commemorative Badge.
SFC Donnan is survived by his wife, Elisabeth Donnan, of the home; three sons, Ron Donnan (Ninoska) of Fayetteville, NC, Thomas Donnan (Tracy) of Atlanta, GA, and Ralph Donnan (Diane), of Fayetteville, NC; ten brothers and sisters; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.
A Graveside Service will be 3:00 PM Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at Sandhills Sate Veterans Cemetery with Chaplain Robert Nolley officiating.
