Mrs. Joan Rae Horton, 75, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014 in her home after a battle with cancer.
Joan was born in Little Rock, AR on December 29, 1938, daughter of the late John Raymond Dodd and Violet Isabell (Harrod) Dodd.
She married her husband Frank on June 18, 1960 and served with him as an Army wife during his military career. Joan and her husband were married 54 years this past June. After returning to Fayetteville in 1991, she worked at the First Baptist Church in Fayetteville for nearly 20 years. She was an active choir member and church member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Dr. James L. Dodd.
She is survived by her loving husband, Frank of the home; a son, John Horton (Serena) of the home; daughters, Tracy Brown (Pat) of Springfield, VA and Robin Horton of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Lauren Bauer (Brian), Nicholas Brown and Jeremy Brown; great grandchildren, Jeffrey Bauer, David Bauer, Matthew Bauer and Patrick Bauer.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 3:00 PM Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 302 Green Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301 with The Reverend Robert M. Alves officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service in the Kyle House beside the church.
Burial will follow at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
