James Greer Simmons

Mr. James "Jim" Greer Simmons, 88, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2021 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

James was born in Caldwell County, NC on May 4, 1932, son to the late James Henry Simmons and Bessie Ida Greer Simmons. He retired from the US Navy as an EN1 and was a Vietnam Veteran. He later worked and retired as a Lab Technician in Portsmouth, VA. James loved Gospel Music and playing his guitar. He was loved by so many people and had a big heart. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Ivan Simmons.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Simmons of the home; sons, James Robert Simmons of Virginia Beach, VA, David Smith of Enterprise, AL, Michael Smith of Avon Park, Fl and Douglas Folsom of Fayetteville; a sister, Lillie Carolyn Vance of Caldwell Co., NC; a brother-in-law, Dale Smith of Fernandina Beach, FL, 3 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held 3:00-4:00 PM Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Friendship Baptist Church, 3232 Davis Street, Hope Mills, NC 2021.

A funeral service will begin at 4:00 PM following the visitation with Pastor Kenny McMullen officiating. Full Military Honors will follow after the service.
