Hugh Neilson Griffith

Mr. Hugh Neilson Griffith, 90, of Fayetteville, NC passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023 in his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Hugh was born in New York, NY on September 18, 1932, son to the late Vernon Whiteford Griffith and Minnie Neilson Griffith. He served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955 and received the rank of Corporal. After the US Army, he finished his schooling and received his Doctorate Degree and was a Principal for the New York Board of Education before retirement. His loss will be felt by the family for years to come, but his memory will live on through his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Griffith, a daughter, Wanda Thomas, a brother, Vernon Griffith, a granddaughter, Ebony Griffith and 2 great grandchildren, Harmoni Griffith and Riley Cooper.

He is survived by his children, Neil Griffith of Florida, Lisa Griffith-Ashford of Rochester, NY and Nina Griffith-McLain of Fayetteville, NC; 9 grandchildren, Devin Griffith, Matthew Griffith, Jeanette Griffith, Lisa Griffith-Ashford, Katrina Griffith, Joshua McLain, Arissa McLain, Chioke Thomas, Iletumi Thomas, 6 great grandchildren and a host of extended family members.

There will be a time of gathering for the family at 6:00 PM Friday, March 24, 2023 at LaFayette Funeral Home, 6651 Raeford Road, Fayetteville, NC 28304.
