Mr. Harold “Melvin” Dove, 90, passed away Monday, August 9, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones.

Melvin was born February 20, 1931 at the Dove home-place on Hope Mills/Parkton Road. He was the youngest child of Gordon Daniel Dove and Sudie Thaggard Dove. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary, Gordon Jr., Charlie, Louise, J.D. and his brother-in-law, Robert G. Byrd.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Juanita Byrd Dove; daughter, Denise Dove Hall and husband Jim; granddaughter, Liz Jackson and husband Brian and a great granddaughter, Ella Kate; sister-in-law, Linda Byrd; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family members.

He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was active in his community, serving 3 terms as a Hope Mills Town Commissioner and Mayor Pro Tem, a past Master of Lebanon Lodge 391, and a member of the Lions Club for over 30 years. He was also an active and faithful member of Highland Baptist Church and served in many positions in the church.

Melvin made a career in the recycling business. He was the owner and manager of Raeford Salvage and was associated with both Cohen and Green and Raeford Salvage for 52 years.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Highland Baptist Church, 4456 Legion Rd. Hope Mills, NC 28348 with Pastor Danny Anderson officiating.

A private burial will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park on Ramsey Street.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Highland Baptist Church or to the Shriners Children Hospital.
