Giles Archie McQueen Sr. went to be with the Lord on December 21, 2014, shortly after reaching his 82nd birthday in Virginia Beach, VA.
He lived on a farm in North Carolina with his parents and 12 brothers and sisters. He graduated from high school and soon met his future wife Bessie E. McCallum. Bessie and Giles were married in Dillon South Carolina by Reverend Ford.
He was employed by the Mayflower Company in Fayetteville NC for several years before beginning a military career that took him and his family across the globe. Giles began his career in the US Army by completing the US Army Airborne School in Ft Benning, GA. and proudly served with his family for the next 24 years at: Japan, Okinawa, H8S CO 4TH STU BN. In his worldly travels Giles experienced many different cultures and languages. He used those experiences to instill in his children the importance of character, integrity and having a positive outlook on life and always having a church home as their life base. Giles was a loving husband and devoted father always guiding his children to walk in faith. Giles loved music all his life, and enjoyed playing the piano and organ for family and friends. He always had a great sense of humor and wit.
Giles McQueen was an active member of Mount Olive Church singing in the men’s choir until declining health prevented further participation. He also maintained a church home with First Baptist Church in Fayetteville NC.
Giles supported the many endeavors of his family. He is preceded in death by his wife Bessie McQueen of 60 years. Leaving behind 4 children, Giles A. McQueen Jr. and wife Tammy of New Hampshire, and Rodney McQueen of Virginia Beach: Daughters, Vanessa Chavis and husband William of Boca Raton of FL and Marian Lee and husband Stanford of Virginia Beach; brother, Dexter McQueen and sisters Lenora McQueen Townsend, Creola McQueen all of Fairmont N.C.; 5 grandchildren.
Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Sunday December 28, 2014 at LaFayette Funeral Home, 6651 Raeford Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28304.
Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM Monday, December 29, 2014 at LaFayette Funeral Home.
Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in LaFayette Memorial Park Cemetery, 2301 Ramsey Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301.
