Gertrude Martin Ellis, 92 of Fayetteville, received the promise of her Lord Jesus Christ entering her eternal life Wednesday, November 23, 2022.
Gertrude was born daughter to the late John James Martin and Martha Lola Williams Martin on January 18, 1930 in Andrews, SC. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother she worked as a sewing machine operator in the textile industry. Known throughout her church community as Sister Ellis, Gertrude led a nursing home ministry for several years where she would play guitar, sing and preach the gospel to the residence and staff. She was preceded in death by her husband, Muriel William Ellis; her brothers, JD Martin, Jerome Martin, Harry Martin; and her sisters, Jeanette Hester and Mable Jackson.
She is survived by her sons, William Ellis (Janice), Glen Ellis, both of Fayetteville, NC and Stephen Ellis (Renee), of Easley, SC; her daughters Dottie Hodges (Richard), of Hope Mills, NC Brenda Slack (Clarence), of Winston-Salem, NC and Ginny Boeshore (Marlin) of Fayetteville, NC; her sisters Ruth Pritt, Annie Bell Watkins, both of Raleigh, NC; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and a host of extended family members and friends.
The Family will receive friends 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Rivers of Living Water Church, 1764 Bingham Dr. Fayetteville, NC 28304.
Funeral Services will be held 12:00 PM with Pastor Charles Daniels officiating.
Burial will follow at New Hollywood Cemetery located at 780 S. Roberts Ave. in Lumberton, NC.
