Master Sergeant Fredrick Wayne Garnett, Jr. (Retired) 53, of Fayetteville passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2021 in his home.

MSG Garnett was born in Starkville, MS on September 9, 1967, son to Fredrick Wayne Garnett Sr. and Gail Shuman. MSG Garnett joined the US Army in 1989 and retired in 2014 completing a total 28 years of active-duty service. Along with his father, he is preceded in death by his son, JohnPaul Garnett, a granddaughter, Alaina Renee Garnett, maternal grandparents, Melvin and Lottie Robertson and his paternal grandparents, JB and Joyce Garnett.

MSG Garnett’s awards include: Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, 4th award, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, National Defense Service Medal, South West Asia Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, 3rd Award, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon, 5th Award, Combat Infantryman Badge, Kuwait Liberation Medal and Senior Parachutist Badge.

MSG Garnett is survived by his wife, Patricia Garnett of Fayetteville; his mother, Gail Shuman and her husband Edward of Houston, TX; a step son, Derrick Peters and his wife Marianne of Laurinburg, NC; 2 grandchildren, Rosemary Peters, Annabelle Peters and a host of extended family members and friends.

A graveside service with Full Military Honors will be held 1:00 PM Friday, June 18, 2021 at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 8220 Bragg Blvd, Fort Bragg, NC 28310.

MSG Garnett was a warrior and loved his family dearly. He has now gone to be with his son and granddaughter whom he dearly missed.
