Mr. Fred “Butch” Coleman McMillan, 67, of Fayetteville, NC, passed peacefully on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at First Health Hospice House in Pinehurst, NC. He fought a long battle with leukemia and faced his diagnosis with dignity, strength and courage. He was surrounded by his family as he entered eternal rest.
Fred was born in Seattle, WA, on January 15, 1954. He was a graduate of Pine Forest High School in Fayetteville, NC. He worked for Cape Fear Valley Medical Center as The Director of Engineering, retiring after 18 years of service. He then furthered his career as a Senior Project Manager in planning, design and construction for First Health of the Carolinas at Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst, NC. After being diagnosed with terminal cancer he continued to work for 2 years while receiving cancer treatments. He then retired from the work field to spend time with his family. He was well loved and respected by both his family and friends, while being an inspiration to many.
Fred was preceded in death by his loving mother Doris Depperman and father Willot Guy McMillan.
Fred is survived by his wife Sharon McMillan of the home; his son, Francis McMillan of Fayetteville; his daughter Erin Arevalo and her husband Tony of Fayetteville; 4 grandchildren, Brianna McMillan, Joshua McMillan, Abigail Arevalo and Lillian Arevalo all of Fayetteville, NC; 2 sisters Diane Soliday and Karen Lee Murdock both of Fayetteville; a brother William McMillan also of Fayetteville, NC.
A visitation will be held at Cliffdale Christian Center in Fayetteville NC on Friday, February 12, 2021 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at Cliffdale Christian Center on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 11:00 AM, followed by a committal at Fayetteville Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends at his daughter’s home following the memorial service.
