Frank Ross Dupin

Chief Warrant Officer IV (Retired) Frank Ross Dupin, aged 94, passed away in the evening hours on March 23, 2021, in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He would have turned 95 on June 15, 2021. He was born to Artemis Fredericka Businick Dupin in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where he was nicknamed “Bosey” or “Bo” to distinguish him from his father, Frank Joseph Dupin.  He worked for Cities Service Oil Company after he served a brief stint in the Army, stationed in Japan near the end of World War II. He continued to serve in the Army National Guard until 1958, when he returned to Active Duty and moved his wife and daughter to Germany. They welcomed their son in 1960, while stationed in Stuttgart. They returned Stateside in 1961 to Dallas Texas, and later Monterey, CA, where Mr. Dupin completed the Russian Language program. The family traveled extensively to the beautiful State Parks in California and realized they all enjoyed seaside and mountain camping and exploring. In 1965, The family returned to Germany, where they lived in Berlin and Frankfurt and resumed camping, hiking and sightseeing throughout Europe. In 1968, the family returned Stateside and initially looked for accommodations in New York; however, Mr. Dupin found an affinity with North Carolina on a brief road trip to Fayetteville, and he decided to settle his family there and attempt to get stationed at Ft. Bragg. After his return from a year-long tour in Vietnam, Mr. Dupin was stationed with various units at Ft. Bragg until his retirement, when he worked for the State of North Carolina for a few years. He spent a summer working construction on the Appalachian Trail, using old authentic tools and implements. After retirement from the State, he traveled to Alaska, Switzerland and Croatia. He and his wife, Katie, were avid back-packers and campers, and were active in their Neighborhood Watch and the Lumber River Canoe Club well into their 80s. They also were very involved in white-water rafting, experiencing Class 2, 3 and 4 Rivers in Maine, West Virginia and North Carolina. Katie & Frank kayaked in the Sea of Cortez and swam with the whale sharks in Holbox, Mexico. For several years, Mr. Dupin was also active in the civil police patrol. He loved the outdoors & instilled a love of nature in each of his grandchildren, who fondly recall camping trips to Hanging Rock, and ziplining at Carver Falls Park, where their grandfather remarked it was a little boring compared to the fast & long zip lines in Nevada.

By his own request, there will be no formal public funeral service.

Mr. Dupin is survived by his wife and life partner of 74 years, Ktreen (Katie) Thompson Dupin, of Mississippi, his daughter, Rosalind and spouse Don Gagliano of Texas, son Stanley Ross Dupin and spouse Dorie Neal, of California, Grandchildren: Lauren of California, Benjamin of Colorado, Amanda of Texas, and Patrick of Colorado.
