SFC Donald William Vanderwerf, (Retired), 68, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2020 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Donald was born in Rochester, NY on January 23, 1952, son to the late Donald B. and Violet Harvey Vanderwerf. He served in the US Army and retired in 1994. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his step mother, Jacqueline Vanderwerf, a brother, Richard Vanderwerf, nephews, Anthony and Daniel, nieces, Tasha and Virginia and a brother-in-law, Dominick Carangio.
He is survived by his wife Selfida M. Vanderwerf; children, Elizabeth A. Vanderwerf, Donald W. Vanderwerf and Linda L. Vanderwerf (Carlos Montucuma); grandchildren, Eric Vanderwerf, William T. Wallace and wife, Azhane, Shayla M. Vanderwerf, Edward T-L Alexander, Ileana D. Webster and and husband Michael Issac, Alicia A. Henderson, Noah I. Henderson and great grandson, Messiah Issac; sisters, Sandra Carangio of PA, Deborah (Mark) McMillan of NY, Christina Jeffredo of CA and Vicky Carson-McFerren of DE; a brother, Lewis ‟Butch” Carson Jr. (Cindy) of NY; an uncle, Cornelius Vanderwerf of NY and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 12:00 noon -1:00 PM Friday, April 24, 2020 at LaFayette Funeral Home, 6651 Raeford Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28304.
Funeral Services begin at 1:00 following the visitation.
Private burial will follow at 2:00 PM in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
