Born on June 16, 1968, in Cheraw, South Carolina, Derrick lived a life marked by dedication, adventure, and an unwavering love for his family.
Derrick built a career that took him to many states, including a favorite Alaska, where he embraced the challenges of his profession and rose to high positions during his career. His work was more than just a job—it was an opportunity to explore new places and take on responsibilities with determination and skill.
Beyond his career, Derrick had a passion for cooking and took great joy in preparing meals for others. He believed that food brought people together and made sure that those around him were well-fed and happy. He also loved traveling for work, dancing whenever the opportunity arose, and riding his motorcycle—finding freedom on the open road.
Derrick was known for his fearless spirit and compassionate heart. He never backed down from a challenge and faced life with strength and resilience. His love for his family was boundless; he cherished every moment spent with them and held them close until the very end.
He is survived by his beloved spouse, Nikki Piatt; his parents, Glenn W. and Jean H. Grubbs; his daughter, Caroline Grubbs; his son, William Grubbs; his brother, Brian Grubbs; and his four-legged best friend, Buster.
Derrick’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May his legacy of love and strength continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to share in his journey.
