Delores Anne Holt, born July 20, 1937, in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, peacefully passed away on December 1, 2023, in Fayetteville, North Carolina after a prolonged illness. She was the beloved daughter of Mary and Bernard Cherneski and was preceded in death by her older siblings Rosemeri and Charlie.
Delores was the loving wife of Walter Rydzy, a Navy veteran and firefighter, who passed away in 2022. Their romance was a rekindling of a high school sweetheart love story which had been placed on “pause” over 30 years prior.
Adventure would ensue after her marriage to a young Army officer, Bill Holt, and together they raised five children: Brian, Jon, David, Mark, and Bryne. As a military spouse she raised the kids with kindness and steadfastly supported many of the social functions required of an officer’s wife. The family resided at nearly a dozen military bases both stateside and overseas. These included Panama, Okinawa, Alaska and finally upon the foothills of the Alps in Bavaria, West Germany.
The ten years between marriages would become one of the proudest stages of her life when she managed the volunteer department at the University of Utah Hospital while a single mother with three young children to raise. She also worked in various capacities to support the health and welfare of women in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She had a unique eye for making things beautiful and her skills would be on full display every Halloween, Christmas and Easter for the growing children to enjoy.
In addition to her five children, Delores grand mothered eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A joint celebration of life for both Delores and Walter is tentatively being planned for the Spring of 2024 in their hometown of Shenandoah, Pennsylvania.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers, friends, neighbors and relatives whose unwavering support and compassion provided solace in her final years.
She will be deeply missed and remembered affectionately by all whose lives she graced.
