CW5 Charles David “Chuck” Petrie 48, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013 in his home.

Chuck was born in Grand Forks, ND on November 7, 1965 to Charles Arthur Petrie and Anne Carlson Petrie.

An endlessly fun father, and a creatively loving husband, Chuck strove to make each and every opportunity way more fun than it had any business being.

A vivacious, professional soldier, he lived for the team mission and his comrades in arms. He never missed the opportunity to go the extra mile to guarantee victory. A true expert, he was a gifted teacher and mentor to many.

He mastered sarcasm.
He sniffed dogs for therapy.
He didn’t always drive BMWs, but when he did, he only drove purple ones.
He made a cheese sauce that would have made George H.W. Bush love broccoli.
He hated communists, cats and incompetence dutifully
He loved just about everything about Germany, but especially his native friends.
He chose the old classic over the new flagship every time.
He could integrate a song title or lyric into any conversation.
His vocabulary was intimidating.
His wit clocked in at light speed.
Van Halen’s album, 1984, saved his life in the jungles of Honduras in 1997.
He had the ears and appreciation of a professional musician.
He refused to leave the house until his socks matched his shirt…..without exception.
His reflexes were abnormally fast.
He always said the words “accoutrements” and “target” with a French accent.
He was a man of the highest quality.

He was assigned to Headquarters, US Forces Command (FORSCOM).

He is survived by his wife, Terri M. Petrie of Fayetteville; sons, Charles Matthew Petrie and his wife Betty of Indianapolis, IN and Benjamin David Petrie of Fayetteville; daughter, Emily Christine Petrie of Fayetteville and her fiancé, Greg Sawyer of PA; his father and mother, Charles A. and Anne C. Petrie of New Hampshire and a sister, Angela McPherson of Colorado.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, December 13, 2013 at the All American Chapel, Building C-7242 Ardennes Street, Fort Bragg, NC 28310 with Pastor Chris Shinnick officiating.

Visitation will follow the service in the reception hall at the Chapel.

Burial will be 1:00 PM, Wednesday December 18, 2013 at Arlington National Cemetery.
