Cw3 Lawrence Laverne Spivey (Retired)

Lawrence Laverne Spivey, lovingly known to most as Larry, went to be with the Lord on May 31, 2021, at the age of 84. He passed on from this world surrounded by his family.

Larry is survived by his wife, Frances Spivey; his children, Devada Beard (Rob) and Larry Spivey (Tina; stepson, Tyler Salbach); his grandchildren, Robin Hainline (Garrett), Rachel Beard, and Hailie Spivey; and his great-grandchildren, Jackson and Charlotte Hainline.

Larry was born in Tabor City, North Carolina on April 6, 1937. He was adopted and raised by his grandparents, Lawrence and Lillian “Bessie” Spivey. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1956 and served in the Vietnam War. He retired from the Army as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 after bravely serving his country for 31 years. He married his wife Frances in 1961 and together they raised two children. Larry and Frances just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in March. Larry and Frances, along with their children, traveled the world together and have fond memories from these times. They spent a total of nine years in Germany and during that time were able to visit many countries together. Larry had a love for traveling; he and Frances have visited 40 states in the USA. Many miles have been traveled and many memories have been made in their RV. Larry is fondly known by some of his favorite people as Papa. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

Visitation will be 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Thursday, June 3, 2021 at LaFayette Funeral Home, 6651 Raeford Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28304.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Friday, June 4, 2021 at Antioch Church of God, 542 Shaw Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28303 with Brother Jerry Johnson officiating, assisted by Brother’s Robert Staples and Ellis Autry.

Burial with Military Honors will follow at 3:00 PM in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
