SGM Watson Lee McKibben (Ret.)

Sgt. Major Watson McKibben (92), U.S. Army Retired, passed away at home with his loving wife at his side on April 5, 2024 after a long battle with Alzheimers. Watson was born in Pavo, Georgia on July 4, 1931 to the late Alfred Lee McKibben and Nannie Mae McKibben (Williams).

Watson was a hard-working man who loved his family and country. He joined the Army in 1947. After serving 30 years, he retired in 1977. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After retirement, he became a business owner and later a security guard. He enjoyed traveling back and forth to Korea with his wife for several years.

Watson was preceded in death by his brothers Alton McKibben, Orvin McKibben, Austin McKibben, and his sisters Mildred Prosser, Sally May Hatcher, Margaret Rogers, Wynelle Christensen, Edna Francis, and Myrtle Lee Futch.

He is survived by his wife, Pong, of 66 years; his daughters, Mary Durand (Wake Forest, NC) and Suzie Cuzzetto (John; Dupont, WA); his sons John McKibben (Ibis; Miami, FL) and Richard McKibben (Arminda; Fairfield, CA); his grandchildren (Kristina, Justin, Stephanie, Laura, Elizabeth, Christopher, Chandler, Niki, Kylie); his great grandchildren (Owen, Chadwick, Naomi, Delilah), and many extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be 11:00AM-12:00PM Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at LaFayette Funeral Home, 6651 Raeford Rd., Fayetteville, NC 28304. Pastor Stan Hyon will be officiating the service. Graveside services will be 2:00PM at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 8220 Bragg Blvd., Fort Liberty, NC 28310.

A reception will be held at 3:00PM at the Fayetteville Korean Baptist Church, 16873 Cliffdale Rd., Fayetteville, NC 28314
