Cpt Raymond Darryl Smith

Raymond Darryl Smith was born June 21, 1978, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his wife of fourteen years, Tremeki Smith, his daughters Caroline Rivera, Desarie Smith, and Uniyah White. Raymond is also survived by his parents, Darryl Raymond Alexander Sr., Philadelphia, PA; Victoria Smith, Philadelphia, PA; and the late Vanessa Smith, Jacksonville, Florida; his grandson, Ayden Newby-Smith; his brother, Darryl Raymond Alexander Jr.; his sisters, Ciana Alexander, and late sister Katrina Smith; his Godchildren, Oluwademilade, Oluwanifemi, Oluwajoba; and Jocqua Jr. his nephews and nieces, Jordan, Elijah, Autumn, Aubrey, Samaje, Sekhai, Saa’hir, Saheem , Kyvonjae, Yasheika, Aniyah, and many family members and friends who are grateful to have had him in their lives.

CPT Raymond D. Smith lived by the examples set forth by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He honored Jehovah God’s calling on his life by serving as a priest, provider, and protector for his beloved wife and children. His service extended to the many lives that he connected with, yielding a positive impact during his 25-year tenure in the United States Army from September 1996 to February 2021. He enlisted in the Army as an Equipment Repairer and later an Army Career Counselor. In 2012, Captain Smith was commissioned thru Campbell University ROTC into the Chemical Corps. CPT Raymond Smith’s duty to God and the Army knew no bounds as he was called to deployment for Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, Kuwait, and the Republic of Korea. Raymond, was more than a soldier in the United States Army, he was a soldier in the Army of God our Redeemer. His mission was to find lost souls, the hurt, the misguided, the unloved, and bring them to the knowledge of Christ Jesus through the spoken Word of God and his actions. Raymond didn’t have to walk around with a Bible because he lived his faith out not just in talk, but in walk.

He believed that the Word of God would change humanity one life at a time and with the arsenal of faith and prayer, he walked alongside the church and his family into local hospitals, nursing homes, and impoverished communities determined to infuse hope to the hopeless and reconciliation to the broken. Ray carried joy unspeakable and peace that surpassed understanding because of his love for the Lord and when he entered a room or a briefing you could sense the joy and peace he carried. With all that he accomplished it was amazing to witness his integrity, his desire to keep his family and career in balance and most importantly KEEP the Lord God Almighty FIRST. All the while, allowing the love of God, his ministry of reconciliation and forgiveness, and the Word of God to guide his every interaction. Raymond, never knew a stranger, for to him everyone was worthy of God’s love and his service.

This mighty man of God Almighty has stepped into eternity with his Beholder. Raymond fought a good fight, finished his course, and kept his faith, 2Timothy 4:7. Leaving us with his legacy of reconciliation and forgiveness.

Visitation will be 10:30 AM – 12:30 AM Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Main Post Chapel, 1-1510 Macomb St. Fort Bragg, NC 28307.

Funeral Services will begin at 12:30 PM following the visitation with Pastor Eddie Maynor officiating.

Burial with Military Honors will follow at 2:30 PM in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
