Blanche (Shepard) Cox

Blanche Shepard Cox, 72 years of age, passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville NC.

Blanche was born December 18, 1951 in Columbia South Carolina to the late Pervis William Shepard and Willie Belle Shepard. She was the 2nd eldest of 6 children, 4 preceded her in death. She was graduated from C.A. Johnson High School and furthered her education to become a graduate of Benedict College, both located in Columbia, South Carolina.

Blanche married Darnell Cox in 1970's and 2 children were born from this union. Blanche gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member of the church no matter where the family was.  Covid couldn’t even keep her away from church as she would tune in on her phone so that she could get the word.  Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Sweet Haven Holy Church of God and Lewis Chapel Baptist Church were her church homes outside of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.  The family spent time in Manheim Germany, Ft. Lee Virgina, Ft. Drum New York and finally settling in Fayetteville North Carolina in 1993.  Throughout the years, she made friends wherever she was and most of them were considered family.

She absolutely loved all of her family, tailgating at Benedict College homecoming games and model trains.  Not to mention, she was the Head Coach of all her favorite teams buts they never knew it.

Preceded in death by Sisters Wanda Shepard, Sybil Yvette Davis and brother Kenneth Shepard.

She is survived by her Beloved and Devoted Husband, Darnell Cox, Sr., her two children Tamara Elaine Cox and Darnell Cox, Jr. her two grandchildren Darnell Cox, III and Layla Elaine Cox.; Sister, Gloria Geneva Shepard Miami FL; Nephews, Joseph Trody Miami Florida, Bernard Pervis Ray Gibson (Shaquanna) Columbia SC; Nieces, Shawntay Cooley (Jerry) Atlanta GA, Shawndele Gibson Columbia SC, Alexandria James (Leroy) Miami FL, Nicole McLaughlin (Lorenzo) Fayetteville NC, Jaime Thompkins (Tyrone) Miami FL, Winter Shepard Miami FL, Try Neshia Robinson (Deon) Miami FL, Chandra Blow (Randal) Miami FL, Wanda Delores Gibson Fayetteville NC.

A visitation will be held at LaFayette Funeral Home Chapel on Friday May 31, 2024, at 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM located at 6651 Raeford Road Fayetteville, NC 28304.

A service will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Saturday June 1, 2024 at 4:00 PM located at 110 Broomstraw Ct, Chapin, SC 29036.
