SSG Arnold Eugene Steinkopf, 75, of Saint Pauls, NC died Sunday, March 13, 2022 in UNC Health Southeastern.
Arnold was born on December 16, 1946, in Clay County, Minnesota to the late Elmer Steinkopf and Jessie Tilloston Steinkopf. SSG Steinkopf joined the US Army on December 22, 1965 and served more than eight years before being Honorably Discharged. During enlistment he served in Korea and Vietnam earning the following awards and decorations: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal W/60 Dev, and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
Following military service, Arnold worked and retired as an electrician for Nicholson Electric. He was known to many as ‟A Grill Master” secondary to his love for grilling, he enjoyed working in his yard and watching Nascar Racing. Mr. Steinkopf loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To them he was known as ‟The PawPaw”.
Along with his parents, Arnold was preceded in death by his brother Jerome Steinkopf.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Steinkopf (MawMaw), of the home; his son Charles Cook (Carrie), of Hope Mills, NC; his daughter Pamela Riefkohl (Uroyoan), of Southern Pines, NC; his brother, Bernard Steinkopf, of Brooks, MN; his sisters, Alice Poppel (Ed) of Wolverton, MN, Delilah Schmitt (Joe), of Barnesville, MN, Judy May (Joseph), of Watertown, SD, and Mae Steinkopf, of West Fargo, ND; six grandchildren, Trevor, Tyler, Cody, Kailey, Uro, and Chad; three great-grandchildren, Titus, Naiomi, and Kaison; along with a host of extended family members and friends.
The family will host a Celebration of Life 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Friday, March 18, 2022 at the Saint Pauls Community Center located 111 N. 3rd St. Saint Pauls, NC 28387.
