US Army 1SG Richard Sierra, (Ret), 63, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022 in his home.

Richard was born in Puerto Rico on July 6, 1958, son to the late Luis Sierra Rivera and Genoveva Cosme. After Richard completed high school, he enlisted in the US Army and served faithfully for almost 27 years. After retirement, he worked in Civil Service for 13 more years before his health forced him to retire.

1SG Sierra served with the utmost distinction and received the following awards in the military: Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Award), Army Commendation Medal, (3OLC), Army Achievement Medal, (5th Award), Good Conduct Medal, (8th Award), National Defense Service Medal, (2OLC), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, (3 Bronze Service Stars), Armed Forces Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, (5), Nato Medal, Army Superior Unit Award, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

1SG Sierra is survived by his loving wife, Tamara Sierra of the home; sons, Richard Anthony Sierra and wife Vanessa of Texas, Jose Sierra of Washington State, Luis Sierra of Texas, Ricardo Santos of Raleigh, NC and Emilio Sierra of Fayetteville; sisters, Dalia Sierra and Jackeline Sierra, both of Puerto Rico; 1 grandchild, Christian Sierra of Texas and a host of extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be 8:00 AM -9:00 AM, Thursday, February 10, 2022 at LaFayette Funeral Home, 6651 Raeford Rd. Fayetteville, NC 28304. Funeral Services will begin at 9:00 AM following the visitation.

Graveside Services with Full Military Honors will follow at 10:00 AM in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery, 8220 Bragg Blvd. Fort Bragg, NC 28310.
